The pilot will consist of two communities. Each community will participate in two eight-week campaigns that will take place over a 12-month period. “Campaigns” will be the mechanism to educate and recruit community members to take energy-saving actions, log their behavior changes, and support the community’s chosen cause. Prior to the launch of the first campaign, each community will host two stakeholder workshops to establish a community-wide energy reduction goal, identify the local cause in the community, and provide local input on the campaign designs.
During campaigns, participating residents will receive messages to take low- to no-cost energy-saving actions. Each week, they will record their behavior changes to earn points toward increasing levels of financial reward for the community cause. The more energy residents save and the more residents recruit neighbors to save energy, the greater the financial reward to the cause.
