Allows heat pumps to adjust the heating or cooling output of the system. The heat pump could have more than one compressor, a compressor that runs at two or three speeds (multi-stage), or a compressor that can vary its speed in small increments (variable refrigerant flow). By varying the output, the system can better match the heating or cooling requirements of the home. This is particularly important in Wisconsin, where the heating requirement can be several times more than the cooling requirement.
